Here are the sample prints that were done using different techniques/inks. All of them have been printed using silk screens. The colors are not according to my design. We have used the colors that were available at the studio.

Another part of the theme based furniture are 'tents.' The tents are being designed by Taresh, also an intern at Flip design. He designed one tent in the 'adventure' series, which is now at the prototyping stage. While we wait for the prototype to be ready, we are working on the skin of the tent. One part of the skin required a 'bellow' form. I helped Taresh stitch the bellow for the small scale rough prototype.

Here are pictures from the process.

The bellow was not made according to the size of the tent model, and so it does not fit perfectly. We shall work on the full size skin once the tent prototype is finished. The materials used for the small model is bamboo sticks along with m-seal and pins for joinery. The fabric I used for the bellow is kora cotton. The final prototype will have metal pipe as the material for the tent frame and thick cotton for the skin.

Few initial explorations for patterns using the footprint style:

Second style of motifs for prints: I called it the 'footprint style'

To start off with, I drew the footprint of an elephant and started exploring -

I then tried out motifs by creating a pattern with the footprints within the silhouette of the elephant

Another idea was to combine the images of the footprint and the elephant

I am working on putting these motifs into patterns for print and shall post my designs soon

Another fabric exploration:
Technique used - Applique (stitch - blanket stitch)
Fabrics and Yarn used - Cotton

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

I tried out appliqué for a fabric exploration. The fabric used is cotton. The stitches used are blanket stitch, buttonhole stitch (for the eyes) and herringbone stitch (for the beak and the legs)
I am working on more iterations for this, which will be up on the blog soon.
